Subdomains are often a very good choice for your new home since the URL short and easy to remember. Some search engines also give subdomains a slight boost over conventional free hosting addresses.
If you've decided to go with a free website host and don't want to own a domain, these might be just what you're looking for. They have shorter addresses than most other free hosts, usually in the form of http://you.them.com.
Bravenet Hosting
There's two different types of free hosting accounts here, so look closely at which works best for you.
The first one, called Bravehost, is best for people who already know how to code sites and prefer a more hands-on approach. It offers FTP access, a file manager, PHP, databases, email accounts and domain management. This subdomain comes with 5MB storage and 1.5 Gb bandwidth. Banners added, no popups.
The other plan they offer, called Jigsy, is perfect for people who just want an easy to make website or blog. With that plan it's a drag and drop editor that works right from your browser and they have hundreds of themes available for you to choose from. Your address would look like example.jigsy.com and it gets 5mb storage and unlimited bandwidth.
Both plans offer paid upgrades so when your website grows you could easily switch to that instead of having to move to a new host if you prefer.
x10Hosting
All hosting plans at x10Hosting come with cPanel, Custom Account Panel unmetered disk space and monthly transfer, cPanel and custom account panel, GD Library, FTP access, webmail and POP3, PHP, MySQL, ASP.NET, Python and Perl.
Forced Ads: none.
1FreeHost.net
They offer free subdomain or domain hosting with 25MB space, 1 Gb bandwidth per month, cPanel 10, Fantastico, PHP & MYSQL, CGI, Frontpage extensions. They do add a forced banner advertisement to your pages, to remove that hosting costs $2 / month.
NetFreeHost
Their free subdomain (your url would look like http://example.bizhat.com) has 50 MB web space and 5 GB monthly transfer limit. They offer a few extras like a hosted message board, counter and SSI. Uploads are by FTP and they also have an IE based file manager.
Forced Ads: No ads, banners or pop-ups added to your pages
